We’re into the second half of this summer’s class. Tuesday’s distance
of 2.25 puts you one mile beyond your start here, and less than a mile from
your finish at 3.1.
The route: Start with a short loop (of about .2 mile) so it adds up to
proper distance. Then take bike path to 24th and turn left, with
another quick left onto Amazon Trail. Run the one-mile lap there (out on street
side and back on creek side), before returning on bike path to finish.
Weather forecast: predicted high of 79 with some clouds. That’s the warmest
so far for class, but still not quite normal for this date and hour.
LESSON 9: Choosing Shoes
This is the only big and recurring equipment expense. Spend wisely by
buying well-made shoes of a major brand. (The most available and reliable are,
alphabetically, Adidas, Asics, Brooks, Hoka, Mizuno, New Balance, Nike and
Saucony.) Search out a model that fits you properly and is right for your foot
type, body build and running amount-pace-surface. If in doubt about what your
right shoe choice should be, shop at a running specialty store employing expert
advisers. Even the best shoes have a limited lifespan. Plan to replace them
after about 500 miles of wear.
