Let’s get this party
started! Or if “party” is too strong a word for you, think of it as beginning your
progress toward five kilometers (3.1 miles).
We’ll come together as a
class for the first time on Tuesday the 18th. Meeting spot is the
shaded picnic tables on the north side of the Amazon Community Center, which is
pictured here. Parking, water fountains and restrooms are all nearby. Your keys and
other belongings can stay with me, and will never leave my sight.
The day’s main distance
will be 1.25 miles. The route will be half on bike path and half on woodchip Amazon Trail. I’ll give careful directions and mark key turns with
orange flags.
Starting today, I’ll
post a mini-lesson on running. The first of those…
LESSON 1: Starting Lines
Welcome to running, or welcome back. This might be your first try at
it, a return visit to the activity or an attempt to improve on what you already
do. Whatever your reasons for taking this class, you should be a better runner after
these eight weeks. The class meets once a week, but try to run at least two
more days each week on your own. Three weekly runs satisfy the minimum
requirement for gaining or maintaining fitness. Our group run each week is
meant to be relatively easy, as are other days when you run independently. The
goal in this class are improvement for all of you and injuries to none.

serene – and hot – last Tuesday at 6 p.m.)
